The Jakobsen couple had heard bad things about how guests treat people’s homes

The Jakobsen couple owned an apartment in central Copenhagen and were considering renting it out via Airbnb and Booking.com. However, they had heard many stories about guests who did not look after homes, including party bookings, smoking and guests who did not take care of their hosts’ homes.

BY Administration responded straight away and shared our security protocols and our experience with short-term rental guests:

Before guests book, they must accept BY Administration’s house rules. These include no smoking, no parties, quiet hours from 22:00 to 7:00 and general respect for the neighbours and the neighbourhood. In other words, in Denmark we appreciate a beer or a good glass of wine, but the home is first and foremost a place to relax and unwind.

In addition, all BY Administration rentals require guests to book at least 2 nights. This minimises the number of party bookings and others who “quickly” need a place to sleep. BY Administration’s guests are organised people who have planned their trip.

Finally, at BY Administration we require all guests to show ID, such as a passport or driving licence, before check-in. We cross-check all guests and make sure we have received sufficient digital documentation of who they are. We put a lot of resources into this, because we know that the host feeling safe about renting out is essential for a good guest experience.

Based on the requirements above, the ID checks and friendly reminders to guests, we could say with confidence that we had it all under control.

The couple could therefore rent out their home safely to international guests without handling the management themselves. Their apartment quickly became a big success on both Airbnb and Booking.com.
